I’m writing an article about local venues that present wine dinners and food events. I start with Google, and only find a tiny fraction of what actually happened over the last 12 months, let alone two or three years. How come?
Because most venues delete the online memory of their events the minute they’re over, or never take the time to save them: nothing remains of the special menu, the wines, the speakers, the fun or the photos. If there’s an Events Calendar for June, it’s replaced by July etc. Maybe there’s mention of it on the Facebook Page, but that’s long gone under the chit-chat, and past Event listings on Facebook are hidden. But most likely you do have the photos on your hard-drive, and there’s sure to be a pdf of the menu.
Please take two simple steps: set up a free diary/blog with Posterous.com, and every time there’s an event, email to the Posterous email address a couple of photos and a copy of the menu – your blog is updated automatically. That’s it! As time passes you’ll build a wonderful collection of memories that can be seen by everyone, and if you’re feeling bold you can add a sentence or two about what happened. Enough with the fear of blogging people (whoops, I said the B-word again…) – this is important! Like some inspiration – see how Jen at Capital Wines does it with her iPhone…it’s not hard.
